• Ontonagon visits Ironwood.
In boys basketball tonight…
• Calumet welcomes Ishpeming
• Baraga hosts Ontonagon in a make-up game from January 20th.
In girls-boys doubleheaders this evening…
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City plays at Lake Linden-Hubbell – the girls at 5:45, and the boys at 7:15.
• Jeffers visits L’Anse – the boys at 5:45, and the girls at 7:15.
Pairings have been announced for the girls district basketball tournaments next week.
• Division Four, District 98 quarterfinals will be held Monday, with Dollar Bay-Tamarack City facing Chassell, and Jeffers taking on Lake Linden-Hubbell. Baraga and L’Anse have opening-round byes.
• Division Four District 97 quarterfinals will also take place Monday, with Bessemer playing Ironwood, and Wakefield-Marenisco playing Watersmeet. Ewen-Trout Creek and Ontonagon have opening-round byes.
• Division Three District 65 will have one quarterfinal Monday, when Gwinn takes on Ishpeming. The winner of that game will face Hancock next Wednesday, and Calumet will play Westwood. We’ll broadcast the Calumet-Westwood game on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
• Division Two, District 33 has only four teams, and will begin play next Wednesday. Escanaba will face Negaunee, and Houghton will play Kingsford. We’ll broadcast the Houghton game on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
College Skiing
At the NCAA Central Region Championships in Duluth, the Michigan Tech and Northern teams finished in a first-place tie.
• The Tech women won their division. Nea Katajala won the classic 5k Saturday, and Henriette Semb took the 15k skate title yesterday, with a photo finish over NMU’s Hilda Eide.
• Northern’s Kjetil Banerud won both the men’s 10k classic and 20k freestyle.
Semb, Katajala, Anabel Needham, Skylar Patten, Colin Freed, and Henry Snider qualified to represent Tech at the NCAA national tournament beginning March 9th in Utah.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings are off until Wednesday, when they host the Colorado Avalanche. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
After the All-Star break, the Detroit Pistons host the Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday night. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
