Packers Club Lions – Monday Sports Wrap

High School

Houghton High School’s varsity soccer club defeated the Copper Country Christian School club team, 8-0, this weekend. Ray Shaw had a hat trick for the Gremlins.

In cross country, the Calumet Invitational will be run today at the Swedetown Trails.

Youth Hockey

The Keweenaw Bay Hockey Association registration scheduled for this evening at the Baraga Hockey Rink has been postponed until next Monday.

MLB

Matthew Boyd pitched four perfect innings, but fell apart in the fifth, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Cleveland Indians 7-4 yesterday. Boyd gave up three runs in the fifth inning, and left in the sixth after José Ramírez hit the first of his two home runs. Miguel Cabrera hit a late home run for Detroit.

The Tigers have today off, and start a set at Minnesota tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Daniel Vogelbach hit two home runs, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 yesterday. Ryan Braun had two hits in what may have been his final home game for the Crew. Josh Lindblom pitched into the sixth inning, and gave up one run.

The Brewers’ playoff hopes are still alive, as they open a series in Cincinnati tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start against Luis Castillo.

Milwaukee will finish the regular season without Ben Gamel. He’s been battling a quad strain for weeks, and has been placed on the injured list.

NHL

The Stars face the Lightning in game two of the Stanley Cup championship series tonight. Dallas won the opener on Saturday.

NBA

Anthony Davis’ three-pointer at the buzzer lifted the Lakers past the Nuggets 105-103 last evening. L-A leads the Western Conference final 2-0, with game three set for tomorrow.

The Eastern Conference final between the Celtics and the Heat resumes Wednesday. Miami leads that series 2-1.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers spotted the Detroit Lions an early 14-3 lead, then roared back to claim a 42-21 victory yesterday. Aaron Jones rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Rodgers tossed two touchdown passes. Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes for Detroit.

In last night’s game, the Seahawks held off the Patriots 35-30. Russell Wilson threw five touchdown passes, and the Seattle defense stopped New England quarterback Cam Newton on a quarterback sneak from the one yard line as time expired.

Tonight, the Saints visit the Raiders in Las Vegas. Coverage will begin at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
