Justin Wilson pitched a perfect ninth to record the save.
In the second game, the Tigers collected just four hits in a 4-1 loss. Daley will make a little more than three-million dollars per season. He spent most of his career with the Dallas Stars, and helped lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a Stanley Cup title last season. The Wings also signed Luke Witkowski to a 1.5-million dollar, two-year contract. Witkowski skated for the Lightning last season. He played college hockey under Detroit coach Jeff Blashill at Western Michigan University.
Goalie Tom McCollum has returned to the Detroit Red Wings’ organization. McCollum’s NHL career began when Detroit picked him in the first round of the 2008 draft. He toiled in the minor leagues for seven seasons, making just three appearances with the Wings. He then left as a free agent, and spent two seasons in the Calgary Flames’ minor league system. On Saturday, the Wings traded a conditional seventh-round 2018 draft pick to the Flames to bring him back. Detroit also signed free agent center Turner Elson to a one-year contract. Both are expected to play for the Wings’ top minor league club, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
