Ian Kinsler drove in five runs, as the Detroit defeated the New York Yankees 6-1 Saturday evening. Kinsler broke open a tie game with a three run homer in the fifth inning. He capped the victory with a two-run double in the seventh. The first Detroit run came on a home run by Nick Castellanos in the second inning. Justin Verlander gave up a run on five hits over 6-2/3rds innings to get the win.

That series wraps up today in New York. Michael Fulmer will start against Michael Pineda. Hear the first pitch at 2:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers clouted five home runs, and defeated the New York Mets 7-4 on Saturday. Ryan Braun hit two long balls. Chris Carter and Scooter Gennett each hit one, and starting pitcher Wily Peralta blasted his first career homer. Peralta gave up three runs over five innings, and earned the win.

The Brewers wrap up that home set against the New York Mets this afternoon. Zach Davies will pitch against Steven Matz.

NBA
The Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers will continue the NBA championship series Monday night. The Warriors lead the set three games to one.

NHL
The NHL Stanley Cup series will continue tonight. The Pittsburgh Penguins lead the San Jose Sharks three games to two. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Rice Lake Fishing Derby Today
The annual Rice Lake Fishing Derby will be held today. Registration begins at 7:00 am at the Lake Linden Hubbell Sportsmen’s Association club house on Rice Lake Road. All fish must be weighed in by 4:00. The cost is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for juniors, and $1.00 for children. Because this is Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend, no licenses are required to participate.

Baraga County Lake Trout Festival
Baraga County Lake Trout FestivalMatthew Ruddick from Big Rapids won the half-marathon at the Baraga County Lake Trout Festival Saturday. Ruddick’s time of 1:29:44.3 was four-and-a-half minutes better than that of Amy Aldrich of Hancock, who placed second, and won the women’s division. In the eight-mile Pequaming Run, Jacob Colling of Chassell took the title, with a time of 50:42.9, five-and-a-half minutes better than Christopher Schwartz of Hancock. Michelle Goodreau of L’Anse was the top women’s finisher. Thomas Strome of Houghton won the 5k run, with a time of 24:29.8. Paul Jacobson of L’Anse was second, three-and-a-half minutes off the pace. Denise Kroll from Swartz Creek was the top women’s finisher.

Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing Tourney
A record 134 teams took part in Saturday’s Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing Tournament at the Baraga County Lake Trout Festival. Team Osprey won the Lake Trout division, with a catch of 50.2 pounds. Team Red Beard took the salmon division trophy, with a catch of 28.7 pounds. Each team earned a $1,500 prize. For full results, click here.
