MLB
Mike Pelfrey pitched five shutout innings, but faltered in the sixth as the Detroit Tigers dropped a 4-2 decision to the Oakland Athletics Sunday. Pelfrey entered his final inning with a 2-0 lead, thanks to RBI’s by James McCann and Victor Martinez. With two outs in the sixth, Danny Valencia and Khris Davis singled. Yonder Alonso hit a ground ball to second that could have ended the inning, but Ian Kinsler misplayed it. The error allowed Valencia to score, and extended the inning. Pelfrey walked Marcus Semien, then was replaced by Justin Wilson, who gave up a two-run single to pinch-hitter Billy Butler that put Oakland in the lead.
