MLB
The Detroit Tigers came from behind, and completed a sweep of the Minnesota Twins with a 6-5 victory yesterday. Minnesota opened an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning, and three runs in the fifth. All were charged to struggling starter Mike Pelfrey, who left the game after giving up a home run and an RBI double in the fifth. The Tigers scored single runs in the second and fifth innings, then tied the game on Nick Castellanos’ three-run homer in the sixth. Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled home Justin Upton with the winning run in the eighth inning.
The Tigers have won six of their last seven games. They’ll take today off, and open a three-game set at Cleveland tomorrow. Justin Verlander will start against Josh Tomlin. Hear the first pitch at 6:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
The Milwaukee Brewers bombed the Miami Marlins 14-5 yesterday. Milwaukee broke the game open by scoring seven runs in the third inning. Domingo Santana led off the game with a home run for the Brewers, and Chris Carter homered twice. The outburst saved starter Wily Peralta, who gave up five runs on 13 hits before leaving in the sixth inning, but still got the win.
The Brewers open a three-game interleague home set against the Los Angeles Angels tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Jered Weaver.
