The Detroit Red Wings earned a crucial playoff win last night, as they blanked the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0. Andreas Athanasiou and Henrik Zetterberg scored. Petr Mrazek had to stop only 16 shots to earn the shutout. It was another chippy game, with 11 penalties called, including four for an altercation that broke out at the final buzzer.
Tampa leads the best-of-seven series two games to one. Game four will be played tomorrow night in Detroit. Face-off is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons dropped the opening game of their first-round playoff series with Cleveland 106-101 yesterday afternoon. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 21 points for Detroit, and Marcus Morris added 20 in a contest that was close all the way. Game two of the best-of-seven series will be played Wednesday evening in Cleveland.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers lost to the Houston Astros 5-4 yesterday. Anibal Sanchez gave up five runs over five innings. Detroit came back, as Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Ian Kinsler homered in the fifth, and J.D. Martinez hit a solo shot in the sixth, but they couldn’t close the gap completely.
The Tigers take today off, and open a series at Kansas City tomorrow night. Shane Greene will pitch against Yordano Ventura.
The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-3 yesterday. Zach Davies was chased from the game as Pittsburgh scored five runs in the third inning. The Brewers open a four game series against the Twins tonight. The first two games will be played in Minnesota. Chase Anderson will pitch against Phil Hughes.
