Steven Francis Lancour

Steven Francis Lancour, 42 of Hancock, beloved husband of Emilie, and father of Michael, Brian, and Matthew, passed away peacefully due to complications following a recent surgery. Steve, son of Douglas and Juliette Lancour and brother to Stacy was born on June 23, 1975 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hancock, MI.

Steve graduated from Hancock Central High School’s class of 1993. He graduated from Northern Michigan University twice, first with a degree in Elementary Education and then again with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Steve worked for Hancock Public Schools as a paraprofessional and driver’s ed instructor, Jeffers High School as a Special Education Teacher, and most recently for the Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium, Keweenaw filling many roles, ultimately doing his dream job teaching 6th grade math.

On June 28, 1997 Steven married high school sweetheart Emilie Anderson.

From a very young age he was an active member of Church of the Resurrection serving on the parish council, the building and grounds committee, finance committee, an usher and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Hancock School Board, and the treasurer of the Calumet Education Association.

Steve was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Francis and Yvonne Lancour and maternal grandparents Albert and Rachel Vukonich.

Surviving are his loving wife of 20 years Emilie; sons Michael (17), Brian (15), and Matthew (11); parents Douglas and Juliette Lancour; sister Stacy Lancour; Emilie’s parents, Richard and Lois Anderson; and sisters-in-law Rebecca (Brett) Matuszak of Newberry, Florida and Kate (Noreen) Anderson of Chicago, Illinois.

The visitation will be on Friday from 4 until 7 P.M.at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock, and again from 10 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church on Saturday.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Saturday at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. A luncheon will follow at the Church Hall following the Mass. Spring burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Memorial in lieu of flowers can be directed toward his family for a college fund for Steve’s children.
