CALUMET — Peter J. Rastello, 86, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017, following a courageous battle with ALS at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility where he was a patient for the last six months.
He was born in Laurium on October 6, 1931, a son of Peter and Rose Rastello. He attended local schools and graduated from Sacred Heart High School.
He married the former Darlene Bykkonen on April 12, 1958.
Peter worked as a miner for C&H, Homestake and the Michigan Tech experimental mine. He also worked at Louisiana Pacific, Celotex and retired from Northern Hardwoods.
Peter was an active member of the Court North Star #17 Foresters of America for 57 years. He was avid gardener, loved hunting, fishing and watching the Detroit Lions, Tigers and Red Wings.
He is survived by a sister, Patricia Hanner of Trimountain; his children, Debbie (Bruce) Witting of Toivola, Randy (Lauren) Rastello of Ahmeek, and Steven Rastello of Laurium. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jennifer, Jodi and Peter Witting, Sara Rastello; and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Rose Beaudoin. He is also survived by many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; two brothers, Gerald and Francis Rastello; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Rastello.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church.
Friends may call at the Ryan Funeral Home on Thursday, December 21, 2017, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Court North Star #17 will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017, at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.
