Wilmer J. “Will” Loonsfoot, age 75, of Baraga, MI passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at his home with his loving wife by his side. Will was born in L’Anse, MI on July 24, 1942 the son of the late Simon and Charlotte (Kishketog) Loonsfoot. He attended school in Brimley, MI. Will married the former Barbara Eggers in L’Anse on June 23, 2012. They were together for over 30 years. Will had worked in a carnival starting at age 17 where he ran the double Ferris Wheel and also drove a semi for the carnival, worked for Just Right Tree Service in Brimley, MI for a few years, he drove semi out of the Detroit area and worked in the woods as a logger for 19 years. Will was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the Ojibwa Senior Citizens. He enjoyed working outdoors, cutting grass, shoveling snow and helping his neighbors with theirs, playing cribbage and listening to old country music. He was an avid Cowboys football fan and WWE wrestling fan. Will loved his 2 dogs and his cat.
Will is survived by his loving wife Barbara, children Suzzane Loonsfoot Smith of Alaska, Angie Loonsfoot of Missouri, Erick Loonsfoot of Bemidji, Minnesota, Rebecca Loonsfoot of Detroit, MI, Ramona Weldon of Indiana and Kelly Moore of Oklahoma, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother Virgil Loonsfoot of Baraga, sisters Diane DeCota of Baraga and Margaret (Dean) Poleahla of Falls Church, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clifford “Sonny Boy” Loonsfoot and his sister Marie Durant.
A celebration of life will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Ceremonial Room located at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, Baraga, MI. Immediately following the celebration of life, a pot luck feast will take place.
