William Robert McCoy, age 79 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 23, 1941 in Ishpeming, MI son of Arthur and Sarah (Tapani) McCoy. Bill graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1961-63. Bill worked for Chrysler Motor Co for 31 years, retiring in 1997. He married Clarice Penrose in 2015, and they moved to L’Anse.
Bill, who often went by “Yooper Bill”, loved to tinker with motorcycles especially Cushman’s. He had restored several over the years, always finding a new project to work on. He loved to find new treasures on Ebay! Bill was a doer, he was quick to help someone who needed it. He found true love again with Clarice and she had his heart.
Surviving are his wife Clarice McCoy of L’Anse; daughters, Bonnie (Doug) Fick of Lapeer, MI, Sarah (Chad) Smith of Clinton, TN, Pamela (Alan) McCoy of Waterford, MI; stepchildren, Michael (Wendy) Rautio of Gwinn, MI, Mark (Lisa) Rautio of Ishpeming, MI, Jacqueline (Peter) Froiland of Hancock, MI, step son-in-law Reuben Peterson of L’Anse; 6 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 4 step grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; first wife Alice K. McCoy; step daughter Vicki Peterson; brother James McCoy; sister Marian Williams; and sister-in-law Joanne McCoy.
A memorial service will be held in the spring. Contributions may be made in his memory to the L’Anse Baptist Church. The Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
