William (Bill) Meyer, age 79, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021, at UP Health System Portage.
Bill was born on March 13, 1942, in the Netherlands to Frans Meijer and Maria (Pruissen) Meijer. He immigrated with his family to the United States on June 6, 1955. On December 18, 1962, he became a United States citizen. Bill was a born-again Christian, and he loved the Lord. He loved his family very much. On March 1st, 1980, he married Bettie Smith the” love of his life”.
He lived most of his adult life in Southern California, until 2017, when he moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where his Son Damian has been Stationed in the Coast Guard.
Bill is preceded by his wife Betty Meyer, his parents Frans and Maria Meyer, and his brother Frank Meyer.
Bill is survived by his son Damian (Jenifer) Meyer, his Daughter Michelle (Victor) Morales, his 4 grandchildren Ian Meyer, Nicole Meyer, Enrique Beau Gutiérrez and Victoria Breen, and his great grandson River Bosson Gutierrez.
Bill was the silent patriarch of the family. He was strong in stature and firm with guidance when called upon. He was a strong man of God and lived his faith. He had a long and loving marriage and was a great example to us all. Bill was very quiet, but he loved us all out loud. He will never be forgotten, especially his signature “Bull in a China shop” bear hug.
