Obituary: William K. Jarvi

William K. Jarvi, 74, a resident of Paavola, passed away Saturday February 15, 2020, at the UP Health Marquette Hospital following a short illness.
He was born on February 17, 1945, in Hancock, a son of the late Kenneth and Sylvia (Forsman) Jarvi. Bill was raised in Paavola and attended the Hancock schools graduating with the class of 1963.

Mr. Jarvi was a veteran having served with the United States Army.

Following the service Bill had worked for McGann’s Building Supply and Pettibone in L’Anse.

On September 7, 1968, he was united in marriage to the former Regina Ruotsala. The couple moved to Royal Oak where Bill worked for Chris Nelson and Son’s contracting as a heavy equipment mechanic and then Wetmore Tire Shop. In 1972 the couple moved to Coburntown and since 1982 have made their home in Paavola. Locally Bill worked as a mechanic for Copper Country Ford before owning and operating Bill’s Auto Sales and Service first in Hancock then moving the business to Quincy Hill where he worked until his health would no longer allow him to work.

Mr. Jarvi was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock and the Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion of Hancock. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends at the family camp in Skanee.

His grandchildren: Amanda, Raynne, Ayla, Kenny, Aili, Chase, Ty, Adara, Macaiah and William
Her great grandchild: Kajika
His sisters: Shirley (Carl) Holquist of Ypsilanti
Arlene (Ted) Montecello of Hancock
Patricia (Doug) Viola of Chesterfield, MI
His mother-in-law: Dorothy Ruotsala/Haapapuro of Hancock
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

Funeral Services for Bill will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday February 19, 2020, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Hancock.

Friends may call on Wednesday February 19, 2020, from 11:00 am until time of services at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Beacon House in Marquette in memory of William K. Jarvi.
