Graveside services and Military Honors for William D. Chopp, 82, a resident of Painesdale, who passed away November 8, 2017, will be held 10 am Friday May 18, 2018, at Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.

The Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Homes of Hancock are assisting the family with the arrangements.

William D. Chopp, 82, resident of Painesdale, passed away Wednesday November 8, 2017, following a short illness.

He was born August 5, 1935, in Painesdale, a son of the late William W. and Louise (Enrietti) Chopp.  As a young man, he moved with the family to Toivola.  Bill was a graduate of the Jeffers High School with the class of 1953.

Mr. Chopp was a veteran having served with the United States Navy.

On August 31, 1963, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Grohman.  The couple celebrated 54 years together and resided in Painesdale where they raised their two daughters.

Mr. Chopp worked as a foreman for Cahodas-Paoli for 32 years.  He then was a certified gunsmith working for another 28 years, retiring at the age of 80 so he could do more hunting, trapping and fishing.

William was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell.  He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing and trapping and was an avid Green Packer Fan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his In-laws: John Kaspala, Robert & Marilyn Raisanen and his nephew Henry Kaspala.

His daughters: Joan (Larry Brueshaber) Weber of Champlin, MN

Ann Marie (Robert) Lantz of Toivola

His granddaughters: Marissa Peterson & Julia Lantz

His great granddaughters: Hailey & Natalie Peterson

His brother: Frank (Diane) Chopp of Port Washington, WI

His sisters-in-law: Eunice (Edward) Kern of Clarksville, TN

Lorna Kaspala of Chassell

Mary (Marty) Lapahs of St. James, MN

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for William will be held 11 am Monday November 13, 2017, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell with Fr. Ben Hasse to officiate.  Spring burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.

Friends may call on Sunday November 12, 2017, from 4 to 6 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
