Wesley (Ettu) Hannula, age 97, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021, at the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium, MI.
Ettu was born on December 26, 1923, to parents John and Alma (Niska) Hannula at the farm on Cloverland Road in Calumet Michigan that he lived at until the day of his passing. Ettu went to Woodland School until 8th grade. After 8th grade he started farming, this is something that he would enjoy doing for the rest of his life. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 during World War II, where he served in the European Theater until he was honorably discharged 1946. After the war he worked in the local copper mines for a brief period of time. He enjoyed farming, metal detecting, going to coffee shops, spending time with friends and family, and of course the occasional trip to the Casino.
Ettu is proceeded in death by his parents; John and Alma Hannula, his siblings Carl, Arvella, Erma, Margaret, Evelyn, Paul, Walter, June and two infant twin sisters.
Ettu is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The funeral service for Wesley (Ettu) Hannula will be held on Sunday December 5, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 5, 2021, from 1:00 pm- 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Copper Country Veterans Association in memory of Ettu Hannula.
