As received from the Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Homes:

Houghton

Wenona S. Lund, 91, a resident of The Bluffs in Houghton, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Omega House.

She was born on August 18, 1928, in Roseau, MN to the late Wallace and Cora (Rusten) Strandlie. She graduated from Lutheran Bible Institute in 1948. Wenona then went on to Augsburg College where she earned her BA in 1955 with a major in English and minors in Sociology and Speech.

Following her studies, Wenona ventured to Japan as a single missionary where she met and married the late Norman Lund, fellow missionary and Houghton native. They raised their four boys in Japan. Wenona taught English and Bible Study to students at Eiwa Tandai Jr. College where she authored the textbook entitled Understanding God and Man.

Wenona enjoyed music. She loved to sing and to play piano and the clarinet. She also enjoyed building puzzles and playing scrabble. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, raising her four boys and fellowship with other missionaries.

Following retirement, the Lunds moved to Gladstone, MI where they became members of First Lutheran Church. Wenona was active with the church choir and counseled troubled women who sought help. In 2010, the Lunds moved to The Bluffs in Houghton where they enjoyed the community, staff, fellowship and care. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock. Wenona was greatly loved and will be missed.

Preceding Wenona in death were her husband of 62 years, Norman, and her parents. She is survived by her four sons: David, Nathan, Jonathan and Andrew; her grandchildren: Chris, Kate, Travis, Caleb, Erik, Peter, Danielle, Steven and Matthew; her great granddaughter, Cayla; and her brother Clayton Strandlie.

A time to remember Wenona will be held on Friday July 31, 2020, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock from 2 to 4:00 pm.

A private memorial service for Wenona will be held at another time at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with internment at the Gloria Dei Columbarium.
