Obituary: Walter Seavoy

Walter Scott Seavoy, age 84 of L’Anse and White Lake, MI, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 in L’Anse.

He was born November 9, 1936 in L’Anse, son of Walter and Eleanor (Skuggen) Seavoy. Scott graduated from L’Anse High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58 during the Korean War. After returning from the war, he went to work for Interlakes, sailing on iron ore freighters on the Great Lakes, retiring in 2010. He married the former Jeanne LaJoye on June 29, 1991 in White Lake. They recently celebrated their 30th anniversary in June. Scott was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He loved the grand kids, nieces and nephews and always had games and magic tricks to show them. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed showing his family the best places to fish, hunt and explore the outdoors.

Surviving him are his wife Jeanne Seavoy of White Lake; brother Clarence (Carol) Seavoy of Skanee, MI; sister Emily LaPlante of L’Anse; step-daughters Catherine Shinsky of White Lake, Lori (Jeffery) Scheiffler of Louisville, CO, Kristen (Kevin) Smith of Lake Orion; 8 step-grandchildren Sierra Smith, Sophia Shinsky, Emma Shinsky, Lauren Scheiffler, Jacob Scheiffler, Chloe Dansereau, Ethan Dansereau, Gabriel Dansereau.

Preceding him in death are his parents; step-daughter Karen Gedda; and brother Daniel Seavoy.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 18th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home and on Tuesday, October 19th from 10-11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L’Anse. His funeral mass will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military honors at the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery at 12:15 p.m. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
