Walter J. Pindral, 72, a resident of Painesdale, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee following a lengthy illness.
Walter was born on November 27, 1950, in Kleve, Germany to the late Jozef and Jozefa (Kowalska) Pindral. Walter and his family travelled to the United States when he was 6 months old and made their home in Painesdale since 1953. He attended South Range and Painesdale Schools and graduated in 1969.
After graduation, Walter was drafted into the US Army where he would serve in Vietnam. He was very proud to have honorably served his country. Once he returned, Walter began working at the White Pine Mine. On September 28, 1974, he was united in marriage to the former Janey Luusua. The family continued to live in the family home in Painesdale where they would raise their children. Walter worked various jobs until he began a career with the National Park Service, working maintenance on Isle Royal until his retirement in 2011.
Walter enjoyed being outdoors. He liked to go fishing, rock pick, and take his side by side into the woods where he would take pictures of nature. He liked to spend time at his camp. Walter also liked to take his grand dogs Koda and Rita touring the Copper Country. Most of all, he had a passion for spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Stacy and a nephew, Marc.

A time to remember Walter will take place at 12 noon, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the South Range VFW where a luncheon will be served. Burial with military honors will take place at the Mt View Cemetery in the spring.
