Walter J. Hamel, 98, a resident of Laurium passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 1,2020 in hospice care in Marlette, MI.
He was born on February 5, 1922 in Lake Linden the son of the late Adelard and Mary (Huot) Hamel and attended the Lake Linden Schools.
He married Phyllis Kentala on June 29, 1946 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lake Linden.
They moved to Oak Park, MI where they raised their family. In 1984 they returned to the Copper Country and retired in Laurium.
Walter was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 324. He took great pride in playing a part in the construction of numerous 1950’s thoroughfares in and around the Detroit area.
Walter was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis and daughter Sharon.

At Walter’s request there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements.
