Obituary: Virginia M. Bastian

Virginia M. Bastian, 77, a former resident of Salo Location, passed away Wednesday September 11, 2024, at Canal View – Houghton County where she had been a resident patient for the past five years.
 
She was born on August 25, 1947, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Albert and Ann (Pavolich) Butkovich.  Virginia was raised in Hurontown and was a graduate of the Houghton High School.  Following high school she worked as a bank teller for Houghton National Bank in Houghton.
 
On June 25, 1971, Virginia was united in marriage to Donald Bastian.  The couple moved to make their home in Salo Location where they raised their family.  On January 21, 1992, Don preceded Virginia in death.
 
Mrs. Bastian began a second career working as a cashier for Shopko until her retirement in 2016.     
 
Virginia was an avid reader.  She enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers and being a Grandma.  She loved to attend as many of her children and grandchildren’s events as she could and always enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren.
 
Preceding her in death were her husband Don, her grandson Dyson Bastian, her sister Valerie Lind, her brother Albert Butkovich, her son-in-law: Bill Rekshan, along with her parents.
 
Surviving are:
 
Her children: Todd (Shawna) Bastian, Ann (Bryan) Hoover, Debbie Rekshan and Brent (Karla) Bastian Her stepson: Hal Bastian
 
16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren
 
Her sister: Veronica (Gary) Simmons
 
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
 
A funeral service for Virginia will be held 11:00 am Friday September 20, 2024, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Levi Matteson to officiate.  Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Calumet.
 
Friends may call on Friday September 20, 2024, from 10:00 am until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancoc.k.
