Obituary – Virginia G. “Virgie” Menard

Virginia G. “Virgie” Menard, age 80, of L’Anse, MI passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in L’Anse, MI on July 10, 1938 the daughter of the late John “Bud” and Gloria (Sicotte) Watters. Virgie graduated from L’Anse High School in 1957. She married Larry C. Menard on May 7, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse. They were married for 49 years until Larry passed away on July 31, 2009. Virgie and Larry fostered 18 foster children and had owned and operated The Coast to Coast Hardware Store from 1979 until their retirement. Virgie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, had taught CCD and was very involved in church activities. She was also a member of the Red Hatters. Virgie was a devoted grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed photography, walking, gardening, scuba diving, kayaking and spending time at Second Sand Beach.

Virgie is survived by her sons Patrick (Cheryl) and their daughters Shawnee and Shaylin, Jerry (Jamie) and their sons Kyle, Logan and Kegan and Brian all of L’Anse, two great grandchildren, sisters Jean (Jim) Wstrom of Skanee, Joan Hill of L’Anse, Susie (Jim) Tollefson of L’Anse and Bridget LaBerge of L’Anse, brother Joe Wtters of Minnesota, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by many friends. Virgie was preceded in death by her infant son Michael, sisters Gloria Longman and Mary Kissel, father-in-law and mother-in-law Curtis and June Menard, brothers-in-law Duke LaBerge, Jim Longman, Curtis Jr. Menard and sister-in-law Nancy Menard.

Funeral services for Virgie will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunda, August 5, 2018 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Corey Litzner officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral chapel on Sunday from 12 pm until the time of the service. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral chapel.
