Obituary: Virginia F. Anderson

Houghton: Virginia F. “Ginny” Anderson, 73, a longtime resident of Houghton, passed away on Saturday morning, May 18, 2019 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

She was born on November 17, 1945 in Hancock to the late John and Florence (McCarthy) Anderson, and she attended St. Ignatius Parochial School in Houghton. After serving as a Nun with the Catholic Church in Wisconsin in her early years, she returned to Houghton where she worked in food service at Michigan Tech University. She retired as Assistant Manager of Dining Services in 2001 after 30 years of service. Following retirement she was employed at Book World of Houghton for several years.

Ginny enjoyed cooking, spending time with her friends and family, and her beloved dogs. She was a long-time member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton.

Besides her parents, she also was preceded in death by a brother, John Anderson, a sister, Mary C. Szymarek, and brother-in-law, John J. Szymarek.

She is survived by a niece, Mary Therese (Ron) Chadwick of Temperance, MI, a great-niece Jennifer Cotter, great-nephew Brandon Cotter, a great-great-niece Alice, an aunt Bernadine “Bernie” McCarthy of Houghton, and many cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

Friends may call at the Church of the Resurrection from 10 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. on Friday before the mass.
