Lake Linden: Violet M. (Alanen) Moehrke, age 85 of Lake Linden, passed away peacefully at GreenTree of Hubbell, on Sunday April 3, 2022, under the loving care of Portage Health Hospice.

She was born in Redridge on January 2, 1937, a daughter of Eleanor (Junttonen) and Reino Alanen. She attended the Redridge School and Houghton High School.  In her early years, she worked at Crown Bakery.  She worked many years at the Vacationland Motel and subsequently at the Best Western.  She thoroughly enjoyed all the guests she met over the years.

She married James Moehrke on May 20, 1961 at St. Matthew’s Church in Hancock.  For over 20 years, she and her husband wintered in Camp Verde, Arizona. She was a 10 plus year Breast Cancer survivor and participated in several Relays for Life.  She enjoyed shopping trips with the girls, being out in the pontoon and sitting out on her deck in the summer with a cold one.

Her greatest pride and joy was being able to see her only grandson graduate, marry, and bless her with 2 great-grandsons who she adored and called “her boys.”

She was affectionately known as NaNa. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.

She was preceded in death by her husband-James, her parents, twin sons-Steven and Scott, sister-Evelyn Leikala, brother-Harold Alanen, and her canine companion-“Sassy.”

She is survived by her daughter-Lori (Donald) Carlson of Michigamme, a grandson-Kyle (Abbey) Carlson and her great-grandsons-James and Kaden, special cousin-Arlene, good friend-Bonnie, 2 grand-doggies-Karlie and Kellie, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Honoring Violet’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held later this Spring.  Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
