Viola Ellen “Vi” Webb, age 84 of Covington, MI passed away Friday, February 14, 2020 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Covington on April 1, 1935 the daughter of the late Oscar and Matilda (Salo) Niemela. Vi attended L’Anse area schools. She had been employed as a custodian at Covington School House, Sidnaw School and retired from L’Anse High School in 1998. Vi married Leslie “Les” Webb in Marquette on December 27, 1985. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2019. Vi was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington and the Covington VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bird watching and gardening and loved traveling with Les. They were happily named “Louis and Clark”.
Vi is survived by her loving children Trudy (John) Truelove of Chesapeake, Virginia, Karen (Mike) Lambercht of Warren, Leonard (Jannet) Mercer of Covington, James (Shelly) Mercer of Lakewood, Colorado, Charles (JoEllen) Webb of Covington and Rebecca (Wayne) Murphy of Macon, Missouri, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, brother Charlie (Patty) Niemela of Florida, sisters Ann Marttila of L’Anse, Cookie (Don) Perrow of L’Anse, Judy Ross of Watton, Doris (Joe) Chaudier of L’Anse and Jean (Gerald) Norback of Watton. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 grandsons, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services for Vi will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington with Pastor Richard Little officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall.
Spring interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery.
