Obituary: Vincent J.”Vinny” Kaster

As received from Antila Funeral Service:

Vincent J.”Vinny” Kaster, 55, of Lake Linden and formerly of Trimountain, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020, at UP Health System-Portage. He had been a resident patient at Canal View Houghton County since March 2019.

Vinny was born April 18, 1965, in Hancock, a son of Gerald and Evelyn (Michaelson) Kastar. He attended the Copper Country Intermediate School District, graduating at the age of 25 and worked for several years at the Vocational Strategies Inc. Workshop.

Vinny was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Ojibwa Tribe. He attended Camp Nesbitt for several years. Vinny had a great personality. He made many friends in his church and with the third floor nurses and staff at Canal View. He loved to ride his 3-wheel bike around the neighborhood and visit with the neighbors. He enjoyed playing cards, UNO being his favorite game to play. Watching television and movies was another past-time for Vinny. In his early years he enjoyed boating and bowling. He looked forward to going for car rides and getting together with family. Visiting with his cousin, Kelly, meant the world to Vinny-spending time with her brought great joy to him.

Vinny is survived by his mother and step-dad, Evelyn and Tim Lawless of Lake Linden; his aunts, Beverly (John) Pappas of Hazel Park, Linda (Ray) Beaudoin of Bootjack, Donna (Ed) Parsons of Calumet, Diana (Chuck) Smoker of Two Rivers, Wisc., and Sally Michaelson of Trimountain; as well as numerous cousins.

Vinny was preceded in death by his father, Gerry; his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Isabelle Michaelson; paternal grandparents, Vivian and Wilbert Kaster; and two unless, Brian “Pepsi” Kaster and Martin Michaelson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Grace Lutheran Church in South Range, with Vicar Micah Cavaleri to officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday in the church. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range. Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
