As received from the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home:
Tina Marie Frantila, 62, a resident of Dollar Bay, Michigan, passed away on Sunday morning, February 19, 2023, at home following a long, courageous battle with MS and under the loving care of her husband who upheld his vows until her last breath.
Tina was born on July 27, 1960, in Hancock, Michigan, to Tony Datto and Sylvia “Cookie” Datto. She was raised in South Range before moving to Green Acres Road her senior year and graduating from Houghton High School.
She was united in marriage to Michael Frantila on July 6, 1985. The couple made their home in Dollar Bay where they raised their family.
Tina had a special gift of helping and caring for the sick and elderly. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at Portage View Hospital and later for Superior Home Nursing until she was physically unable to work. She loved her patients and would visit many of them during her free time with her children, and she had her husband shovel their roofs during the long winters.
Tina cherished her grandchildren and the simple moments in life, especially family gatherings, playing games, and good food. She also loved summer and the sunshine along with bike riding and taking walks with her beloved dog, Angel.
Tina was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Stanley Frantila, and all her grandparents.
Tina is survived by her husband Michael of Dollar Bay; daughter Darcie (Michael) Geenen and grandchildren Levi and Brooklyn of Fort Collins, Colorado; son Jesse Frantila and grandchildren Trevor and Trenton of Dollar Bay; father Tony (Bonnie) Datto of South Range; mother Sylvia “Cookie” Datto of Dollar Bay; mother-in-law Judy Frantila of Houghton; sisters Cherri Datto of Dollar Bay and Dennece (Gary) Usitalo of Hancock; brothers Karry (Mary) Datto of Houghton and Chuck (Amy) Datto of Dollar Bay; sister-in-law Cheryl (Jeff) Bloom; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She will be forever missed, especially her laugh and knack for “cracking” herself up. We are comforted by knowing she is free to walk, run, and dance again.
Join us for her memorial service at Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton on Saturday, February 25. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a Christian mass at 11:00 am. Burial will be later this year in the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock.
