Thomas M. “Tom” Darcy, age 76, of Baraga, MI passed away on November 14, 2023 peacefully at home with his wife by his side. He was born in Lansing, MI on May 13, 1947 the son of the late Charles A. and Wilma (Gyer) Darcy, Sr. Tom attended grade school in Lansing and high school in Baraga. He joined the United States Marines and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War from 1966 until 1969. Tom married the former Marlene Andrews in Lansing on October 3, 1969. He had worked for the city of Lansing, Public Service Department as Supervisor and retired in 1992 following 23 years of service. He then worked for Dean Transportation for 15 years. Tom was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga, and the Marine Corps League. His favorite thing to do was deer and bear hunt at Gene Ross’s camp. Tom also enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and casino slots. He and Marlene traveled to Hawaii, Europe, and had gone on Caribbean Cruises. He loved his grandsons and took them to Disneyland. Tom did a lot of genealogy and was able to trace his wife’s family back to the Revolutionary War. Tom enjoyed working with special needs children. He had even dressed up and played Santa Claus for them.
Tom loved and was extremely proud of his daughter Amy. She has had many challenges in her life. Amy lost her son Jacob who was only 19 years old, and is a breast cancer survivor. Tom had a pink ribbon tattooed on his arm with her name on it in honor of Amy Lee.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Marlene, daughter Amy Lee Darcy, grandson Thomas William Gleason, great grandsons Thomas Jacob Gleason and Oliver Michael Hirzel, and mother-in-law Leona Andrews. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles A. Darcy, Jr, sister Donna M. BeBow, and his grandson Jacob William Gleason.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 20,2023 with Father Jins Joseph, celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Immediately following Mass, interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the church hall.
