Obituary: Thomas J. Hobmeier

UPDATE: Celebration of life to be held Wednesday June 26 from 4 to 6 pm at the Hobmeier Family pond 2.5 miles north of Dollar Bay.

Thomas J. Hobmeier, 84, of Airport Road in Franklin Township, passed away at his home early on Sunday morning, December 17, 2023.

He was born on February 14, 1939 to the late Louis and Cecilia (Anderson) Hobmeier. He graduated from Marquette High School and then attended college for a year. He worked at an automobile dealership in Marquette and then started working at the Clark Gas Station also in Marquette. In 1967 he became the manager of the Clark Gas Station in Houghton. After that he was a delivery person for Bunny Bread and finally worked at Vollwerth Sausage in Hancock until his retirement.

On July 26, 1961 he married Lila Credland in Marquette recently celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Tom enjoyed his family farm in Franklin Township including making hay, driving his tractors, and caring for his animals, including horses. He always had his pet cats and dogs. He liked playing the lottery, smoking cigars, playing cards, and NASCAR, but his family and farm were a large part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Lila; three daughters: Kathy (Mike) Brotherton, Carole Rose (Jim Condratovich), and Karen (Doug) Jarvi; two sons: John Hobmeier and Joe (Terri) Hobmeier; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, John (Jesse) Hobmeier; two sisters: Ann Trepanier and Mary Brown; and by nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held later next spring at a special place on the family farm.
