Sylvia Ann Korpijarvi, 94, a former resident of Mohawk, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
She was born on October 1, 1923, in Hancock to Seth and Veera (Linja) Beckman and attended Hancock Schools.
During WWII Sylvia went to Milwaukee where she trained as a millwright to work in factories for the war effort. She was united in marriage to Arthur Savela in 1945. After living in Detroit for several years they moved back to the Keweenaw.
After Arthur’s passing, Sylvia later married Eero Korpijarvi and they made their home in Mohawk.
Sylvia was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Mohawk.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents,
Seth and Veera Beckman,
her husbands, Arthur Savela, and Eero Koripjarvi.

Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Per Sylvia’s wishes, private family services will held.
Burial will take place in the Lake View Cemetery.
