As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:
Susan Linda LeBlanc, 87, resident of Kearsarge, MI died on January 30, 2022 at the Omega House following a long and grateful life.
She was born in Wolverine (Kearsarge) on October 3, 1934, the daughter of late Toivo Peter and Linda (Koopikka) Lehto. She attended the Centennial School and Calumet High School. Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Vernon of 68 years, both sons Bruce Paul (Lorry) LeBlanc, Peter Vernon (Barbara) LeBlanc, and brother Peter Paul (Patsy) Lehto. Susan grew up in Wolverine and enjoyed her memories-swimming in Big Dam, coasting down rock piles in winter, sledding and tobogganing, snow forts; and all the friends in her home-town she shared good times with. She went to Sunday School at Kaleva Hall, thanks to Singrid Lehto who lit the pot-bellied stove to take the chill out of the air. Susan played the pipe organ to sing the old hymns and the Christmas program that brought the relatives all the way from Detroit to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
Moving to Detroit, she found her church, married and raised her children, met other Yoopers for picnics, cards, and shared a cup of coffee. In Cleveland, she watched her children graduate and marry, finding time for work, cards, bowling, and travelling. Her church provided her spiritual growth and provided opportunities for serving. Vern and Susan retired to Tustin, MI, where she loved her country church and rural life – time for a walk in the woods and picking berries. Memories brought her back to the Copper Country and to the “big lake”, then to Kearsarge (Wolverine) where she built a home. Susan thanked God everyday for a life that was so fulfilling and blessed.
Surviving are daughter-in-laws, Lorry LeBlanc and Barbara LeBlanc, sister-in-law Patsy (Wenetpalo) Lehto and her two grandchildren Bryan and Chloe. Susan especially loved Lorry for all her kindness and love through the years and Barbara for her love and devotion to son, Peter.
Susan was a religious woman and shared the Lord with all she knew. Her wish in life was to have a home and family – she indeed was blessed with both. She thanks all her friends for the blessing of friendship and her church for keeping her faith alive.
Summer interment will take place at Lake View Cemetery, Calumet, Michigan.
Memorials may be made to the Laurium Shining Light Church, 246 Tamarack St., Laurium MI 49913 or to the Omega House 2211 Maureen Lane, Houghton MI 49931.
