Obituary: Steve M. Butina

Steve M. Butina, 86, of Painesdale, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Canal View Houghton County.

He was born Aril 9, 1934, in Painesdale, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Grentz) Butina and attended the Adams Township Schools.

Steve worked in the Copper Range Mine in Painesdale and the White Pine Copper Mining Company. Later, he worked as a machinist for Manitowoc Engineering, retiring from there.

Steve was a veteran serving in the United States Army.

In July of 1999, Steve married Bea (Maki) Morin at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton. Bea passed away in 2014.

Steve was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range.

He was an avid bowler in the Copper Bowl Men’s Bowling League and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Tigers. He was a faithful husband and devoted caretaker for his mother. He loved his family and friends and will be missed by all.

Steve is survived by three brothers, Martin of South Range, John (Ronni) of Painesdale, and Jim of Painesdale and Shelby Twp.; his step-children, Michele (Peter) Ardini, Melissa (Steve) Grenier, Mark (Donna) Morin, Marty (Lisa) Morin, Mike (Vicki) Morin; numerous step-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife, Steve was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and Joseph; and three sisters, Mary, Magdeline and Rose.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range, with Fr. John Martignon as celebrant. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
