Chassell
Signe E. Bakkila, 90, a resident of Chassell, passed away Tuesday morning March 27, 2018, at the Omega House in Houghton where she had been residing for the past month.
She was born on July 11, 1927, in Tapiola, MI, a daughter of the late Soloman and Jennie (Haataja) Rintala. Signe was a graduate of the Doelle High School with the class of 1946.
Signe then moved to the Detroit area where she worked for US Rubber and Excelo Corporation.
On August 27, 1949, she was united in marriage to Eric Bakkila in Detroit, MI. In 1954, they moved to Chassell when they purchased the Bakkila family farm. On September 19, 2014, Eric preceded Signe in death.
Mrs. Bakkila was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, were she was active with the church choir, the quilting group, and LCW. Signe had worked in the Food Service Department at Michigan Technological University, retiring in 1990.
Preceding her in death were her husband Eric, her grandson Colan Miettinen, Her daughter-in-law: Sheryl Bakkila, her son-in-law: Bruce Stoddard and Mike Camel; her parents, her brothers, Richard, and Wallace and her sisters; Florence Seppala, Ethel Lohela, Hazel Kilpela and Verna Alatalo.

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Funeral service for Signe will be held 1pm Monday April 2, 2018, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Joe Iverson to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday April 2, 2018, from 11 am until time of services at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell.
