Shirley A. Salo, age 84, of Watton, MI passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. She was born in Munising, MI on January 26, 1938 to Elmer and Irene (Nyquist) Johnson, and was adopted shortly after birth to Joseph and Edith (Johnson) Wixtrom. She graduated from Republic High School. On December 26, 1959 she married Edsel Salo in Negaunee, MI. Shirley was a member of Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church, Watton, MI, and was the organist at the church for a number of years, and was a lifetime member of the Covington Museum. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, reading, genealogy and scrap booking. She and Edsel had spent many years traveling and camping together.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband Edsel, children Karen (Dennis) Davis of Mattoon, IL, Bonnie (Tom) Dowling of Waukesha, WI, Curtis Salo of Eau Claire, WI, and Randall (Sara) Salo of Dowling, MI, grandchildren Mark Hawkins, Karina Davis, Alexander Dowling, Samuel Salo and Leila Salo, and her “adopted daughter” Andrea (Rick) Wills of Negaunee, MI. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church with Herb Jarvi officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at the church.
Spring interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery.
