Shirley Lassila, 87 a resident of Laurium died on April 18, 2023, at Mission Point in Hancock.
Shirley was born on August 24, 1935, in Copper City to the late Oscar and Hannah (Heikkinen) Keranen.
Shirley graduated from Calumet High School in 1959.
She married her husband, George, in February of 1969. George passed away in October of 1970.
She worked various jobs and retired from Michigan Technological University in 1996.
Shirley loved to hunt for agates and enjoyed sunset’s at her camp in Cedar Bay. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and visit with friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her siblings Oscar, Arthur, Raymond, Helmi Hyrkas, John, William, and Mary Kilpela, and four infant brothers Peter, Reuben, Donald, and David.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Marne (Dean) Anderson, and brothers Roy (Marilyn) Keranen, Paul (Virginia) Keranen, George (Kathy) Keranen, and Michael (Sandra) Keranen, and sisters-in-law Pricilla Keranen and Jean Keranen. She is also survived by her grandchildren Eli, Axel (Molly), Lenny, Molly, Wyatt, Trudy, Hazel, Mindy, and great-granddaughter Louisa.
A service for Shirley will be held at First Apostolic Church in Calumet, Michigan on Monday, April 24th at 12:00 pm with Pastor Mark Halonen to officiate.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am -12:00 pm.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements.
