Obituary: Sharon Torgeson

Sharon L. “Mrs. T” Torgeson, 85, a resident of Hancock passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past three weeks.

     She was born on August 6, 1936, in Elgin, IL, the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Peters) Rehberg.  Sharon was raised in Elgin and was a graduate of the Elgin High School.  She then attended Carthage College where she majored in and received her degree in English.  It was also at Carthage College where she met her future husband Wayne Torgeson. 

Sharon and Wayne were united in marriage on July 30, 1960.    In 1965 they moved to make their home in Hancock to raise their family.  On November 20, 2016, Wayne preceded Sharon in death.  

Mrs. T received her teaching certificate and began a career teaching for the Hancock Public Schools retiring in 94 after 30 years.

Mrs. Torgeson was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, she was active with the Portage View Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the hospital gift shop.  She enjoyed traveling with Wayne.  She particularly enjoyed working in her gardens, feeding the birds, shopping, and playing bridge with the ladies.  Having tea with mom was extra special.

          Her godson: Peter (Karen) Fenton of Hancock

            Several cousins

     A memorial service for Sharon will be held 11:00 am Friday, October 8, 2021, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Brahm Semmler Smith to officiate.  Inurnment will be in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Columbarium.

Friends may call on Friday, October 8, 2021, from 10 am until time of services at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to the Hancock Public Schools Foundation in memory if Sharon Torgeson.
