Obituary: Sharon Anne Rocchi

As received from the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home:

Sharon Anne Rocchi, 77, of Point Mills, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on January 15, 2024 at Canal View where she had been a resident for the last two months, after a lengthy progressive illness.

Sharon was born on May 6, 1946 to Oliver and Mary Rajala. She grew up in Chassell on the Sturgeon River, fondly known as “the swamp”, and graduated from Chassell High School.

February 29 of this year would have marked the 60th wedding anniversary with Chuck. What a life they led side by side. They raised two children in Ripley and had many adventures together sailing, building a home, and attending as many of their six grandchildren’s events as possible with camera in hand. Known by many as the 1-800 grandma, Sharon made sure her grandkids knew she loved them. Even her great-grandchildren hold cherished memories.

In 1999, after 28 years, Sharon retired from Hancock Public Schools. Most of her years she served as school secretary at Ripley School and Hancock Elementary.

Sharon led an active life, enjoying first and foremost, her grandchildren and great-grands, then gardening, sailing, skiing, sewing, crafting, and making her house a home. She was known for her quick wit and zest of life, making the most of every day.

She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Charlie and Aileen Rocchi; sister-in-law, Cathy Rocchi; brothers-in-law, Jay Richmond and John Hanke.

Although we are thankful that her suffering is over, Sharon will be dearly missed by her loving and devoted husband, Chuck; children, Joe (Barb) Rocchi of Neptune Beach, FL and Paula (Tom) Fenton of Green Bay, WI; brother, George Rajala; sister, Bonnie Richmond; sister-in-law, Lu Hanke; treasured grandchildren, Kyle Fenton, Tyler (Laura) Fenton, Andie (Christian) Collins, Nick Fenton, Dan (fiance Lilly Shaffer) Rocchi, and Ally Rocchi; and adored great-grands, Grayson, Alaina, and Miles Fenton. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, January 20 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock.

Arrangements are being provided by O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock where online condolences for her family may be left at www.oneilldennisfh.com.

The Rocchi family would like to thank Tonya, Colleen, Carolyn, and Rita for their wonderful care at home, Community Action staff, and the entire staff at Canal View for their endless compassion and warmth.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be to a charity of your choice.
