Shantell Lynn Ekdahl, age 28, of L’Anse, MI passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024. She was born in Hancock, MI on October 18, 1995 the daughter of Lyndon and Shelley (Newland) Ekdahl. Shantell graduated from L’Anse High School in 2013. She attended Northern Michigan University, Marquette and Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI where she received her associates degree in Community Health Nursing. Shantell worked with children in various teaching positions throughout her career. She was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. Shantell enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, running and traveling.
Shantell is survived by her loving parents Shelley and Lyndon Ekdahl of L’Anse, brother Isaac Ethan Ekdahl (Samantha Holick) of L’Anse, sister Shay Ekdahl (Sebastian Kemppainen) of North Carolina, step brother Tyler Larson of Keweenaw Bay, grandmother Sharon Newland of L’Anse, aunt Shirely Mleko of Keweenaw Bay, uncles James (Missy) Newland of L’Anse, Patrick (Kristen) Newland of Green Bay, WI, Jerry Newland of L’Anse, Richard Newland of Florida, Gary (Kathleen) Loonsfoot, Sr of Baraga, who was Shantell’s God Parent, James (Kathy) Ekdahl of Baraga, Ron (Bonnie) Ekdahl of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and Everett Ekdahl of Baraga. Numerous cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Paul and Philomena Ekdahl, grandfather Ethan James Newland, and uncle David Ekdahl.
Funeral services for Shantell will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Jins Joseph officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a feast in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
