Obituary: Sandra “Daydee” Jeanne Grafton

Sandra “Daydee” Jeanne Grafton, age 77 of Baraga, MI passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at her home.

She was born July 8, 1942 in L’Anse, MI daughter of Grant and Juanita (Draeger) Johnson. Sandy graduated from L’Anse High School in 1960. Sandy sung with the Harmonettes with her sister Sharon and friend Sandra Racette. She worked in Marquette at Bunny Bread for a few years prior to marrying Harry Grafton on August 19, 1961 in Marquette. They resided in L’Anse and she worked as a meter reader for the Village of L’Anse prior to cleaning for Commercial National Bank for 10 years. Sandy was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church were she was a CCD teacher for many years and a member of the church choir. She also babysat and was known as “Bamma”, and her biggest joy was her grandchildren. She loved going to the casino, playing cards, reading, fishing, family game night, and was an avid Bears and Cubs fan.

Surviving are her sons, Robert (Sue) of DePere, WI, Scott (Julie) of L’Anse, Todd of L’Anse; daughters, Michelle (Dave) Bier of Aura, Debbie (Dennis) Gerard of L’Anse, Keri Williams of L’Anse; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Corey, Sarah, Joshua, Reece, Joseph, David, Daniel, Izabella, Hadley; great grandchild Piper and Briar is due in August; and a special niece Kim Rappleyea Schropp.

Preceding her in death are her parents Grant and Juanita; husband Harry; daughter Laurie Coby; and sister Sharon Rappleyea.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 1:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home with Fr. Corey Litzner officiate. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow at Sacred Heart church hall. Burial will be in the spring in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
