Obituary: Sally Ann Narhi

Sally Ann Narhi, age 73 of Pelkie, MI passed away on Friday, June 3rd, 2022 at U.P. Health System Marquette, MI.

She was born July 15, 1948 in Hancock, MI daughter of Arvid and Gladys (Campbell) Narhi.  Sally grew up on the family farm in Pelkie.  She graduated from Baraga High School in 1966, then went on to Michigan State University where she received a PhD in Education. Sally is accredited with 31 years of service for Michigan’s public schools.  She began her teaching career in Portland, MI, then became principal at Baraga High School and then L’Anse High School, retiring from there in 1998. 

She was a member of the Alston Apostolic Lutheran Church, Michigan 4-H, IFYE (International Farm Youth Exchange), Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Delta Kappa, Suomi-Seura r.y.-Finland Society, Red Hats, Farm Bureau and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.  She loved farming and traveling all around the world. Sally was an IFYE to Taiwan and her family hosted IFYEs from Norway, Taiwan and Finland as well as a LABO student from Japan. Additionally, she has served on several IFYE national conference planning committees, and has participated in both World and U.S. Conferences.

Sally was also very active in her local community volunteering for the Pelkie Historical School , the Hanka Homestead Museum, Alston Apostolic Lutheran church and Baraga County 4-H. 

Surviving are her son A.J. (Connie) Clark of Sault Ste Marie, MI; grandsons, Nathan, Hunter, Lucas; siblings, Terry Narhi of Menominee WI, Rae Marie (Michael) Klobucher of Engadine, MI; niece JoAnn, and nephew Michael.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Mickey Narhi.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 11th from 11-1:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home.  Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Ed Hulkonen officiating.  Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery.
