Obituary: Ruth S. Pietila

Ruth S. Pietila, 92, a former resident of Chassell, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the Delaware House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past year.

She was born on June 23, 1932, in Ishpeming, MI, a daughter of the late Toivo and Helen (Ulvinen) Huotari.  Ruth was raised in Humbolt, MI, and was a graduate of the Champion High School.

On November 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Arthur Pietila.  The couple had resided in Southfield, MI and South Lyon, MI before moving in 1995 to make their home in Chassell during retirement.  On July 30, 2008, Arthur preceded Ruth in death.

Mrs. Pietila was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her son and daughter in law: Gary (Pamela) Pietila, her son-in-law: Paul Keskimaki, Her grandchildren; Laura Hendrickson and Brian Pietila; Several great grandchildren: her sister; Lorraine Palmer and her brother Ronald Huotari.

Surviving are:

                  Her children: Susan Keskimaki, Jeffrey (Tamara) Pietila, Roger (Virginia) Pietila, Connie (John) Hendrickson, Keith Pietila, Richard (Christine) Pietila, Barbara (David) Pennala, Karen (Lowell) Skoog, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Pietila, Janet (Allen) Tolkkinen, Kevin (Jenny) Pietila, Ronald (Leslie) Pietila, Kurt (Michele) Pietila, Mark (Rebecca) Pietila; 112 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; Her siblings: Marlyn (Dan) Rintamaki, Jean Wikman, Lloyd (Vivian) Huotari, Wendell (Virginia) Huotari, Kenneth Huotari; and her sister-in-law: Arlene Huotari; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service for Ruth will be held 2:00 pm Friday, October 11, 2024, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Mark Halonen to officiate.  Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 11:00 am until time of services at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.
