Ruth E. Maki, 94, passed away on November 24, 2021, at her home in Hancock with her family by her side.
She was born on April 13, 1927, in Hancock, the daughter of the late Edward and Mari (Tamminen) Heinonen. On September 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Walter Maki. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2014.
Besides her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, George, Matt, Art, Edward, Paul & Peter; Her sisters, Jennie Pietila, and Ellen Hyrkas and a son-in-law Erwin Massie.
She is survived by her children:
Don (Shirley) Maki of Howell
Pauline (Ken) Wesa of Howell
Carol Massie of Atlantic Mine
Elaine (Paul) Sturos of Lake Linden
Sue (Reid) Daavettila of Brighton
Bob (Tonya) Maki of Howell
Kathleen (Alan) Harmon of Presque Isle
Ruth is further survived by 43 grandchildren, 147 great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law Lana Heinonen.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton with David Taivalkoski to officiate. Spring burial will take place in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock.
Friends may call on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton from 10 am until the time of the funeral service.
