Ruth E. Maki, 92, a resident of Hancock and formerly of Chassell, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 29, 2021, with family by her side.
She was born on May 11, 1928, in Detroit, a daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Carlson) Barnes.
While living in Detroit, Ruth worked in a factory building carburetors during WWII. She then worked at a pharmacy as a soda jerk.
Ruth was first married to Charles Nesselroad. She later married John Maki in 1956. The couple moved to the area in 1958 to make their home. John passed away in 1988.
Ruth was a member of the Pelkie Gospel Hall. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and fishing. She loved raising her family and being a caretaker for her mother when she was ill.
Besides her parents and husband, Ruth was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis Maki; a grandson, Donald Nesselroad; and a sister, Maryann Carlson.
Ruth is survived by a son, Ronald (Melody) Nesselroad of Houghton; a daughter, Nancy Nesselroad of Hancock, two stepsons, John (Belinda) Maki of Alston and David (Deborah) Maki of Texas; six grandchildren, Kevin Nesselroad, Holly (Tyler) Wright, Crystal (Jordan) Mattson, Clint Maki, Charlotte (Jeffery) Kinderick and Phillip (Jessica) Maki; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as nieces; nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021, at the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock, with Pastor John Jurmu to officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Monday in the funeral home. In keeping with Covid-19 guidelines, social distancing will be practiced.
