Obituary: Roy John Koski

Roy John “Buddy” Koski , age 90 of Aura, MI passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 29, 1930 in Aura, MI son of Matt and Hilma (Ahonen) Koski. Roy graduated from L’Anse High School in 1948. He married the former Eila Kilpela on June 9, 1951 in Aura. Roy worked as a commercial fisherman for 20 years and then in construction for 20 plus years.

Roy was a member of the United Lutheran Church and the Aura Lutheran Church. He served on the Baraga County Road Commission for 39 years, the L’Anse Area School Board, volunteered with the Aura Jamboree, Aura Hall, Aura Fire Department, and church projects throughout the county for those in need. He also coached baseball and loved his grand kids and following their activities. He was an original founder of the Michigan Trappers Association and National Trappers Association. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and dancing. His passion was bobbing for lake trout and teaching those who wanted to learn.

Surviving are his wife Eila Koski of Aura; sons, Calvin (Gail) Koski and Steve (Anne) Koski both of Aura; 5 grandchildren, Kasey, Alissa, Thomas, Matt, Abby; 6 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandsons, several nieces and nephews.

Proceeding him in death are his parents, grandson Andrew Koski, siblings Florence Nelson, Albert Koski, Norman Koski, Dora Waisanen, Walter Koski; Helen Barnett Collins, and Irene Honkala and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in the Aura Cemetery on Monday October 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Peter Suomela officiating. We ask that you use face masks and respect social distancing. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
