Hubbell: Ronald “Roop” Messner, 82, of Hubbell, passed away at his home on May 26, 2019, with his family by his side.
He was born on November 28, 1936, a son of Floyd and Jenny Messner. He was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at TRW in Sterling Heights, Michigan for 37 ½ years and was a member of UAW 247.
Ron had two country-western bands-“The Versatiles” in Warren and the “Over the Hill Boys” in the Copper Country. He loved country music and played the accordion, guitar, and sang since 1968. He loved to play for the people and watch them dance. He also loved fishing and dogs. He bowled in several leagues. He was a member of American Legion Post 90 of Lake Linden.
His family wishes to thank Portage and the hospice workers.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, his step-mother-Valerie, Grandma who helped raise him-Cora, a daughter-Dianne Messner, and brother-Robert (Joyce) Messner.
He is survived by: his loving wife-Anita; children-Ronnie (Yvette), Dennis (Scherry), Ken, Karl, Lori Hanner (Steve), Kevin (Jennifer), James (Keri); step-daughter-Tracy Thompson; step-sons-Frank (Brandy) Maples, Shane (Mina) Maples, George Maples, Mike (Greta) Maples; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friends.
The funeral service will be at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, June 3, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Pastor Chad Mager to officiate and Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 90. Visitation will be from 4:00 until the start of the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Lake Linden.
