Obituary: Ronald Douglas Bishop Sr.

Ronald Douglas Bishop Sr. age 79 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at his daughter’s home.

He was born July 30, 1941 in L’Anse son of Richard and Pearl (Mattila) Bishop. He graduated from L’Anse High School in 1961, and then received an Electrician/Electronic Technician certificate from Coyne Electronics Institute in Chicago in 1966. Ron married Helen Eskel and together they had three children. After Helen passed away he had married Nelda McIntyre at St. Ignatius in Houghton, MI.

Ron worked as an electrician at Celotex for over 40 years, retiring in 2003. He owned and operated H & R Vending for several years. Ron also owned Picture Bay Trailer Park from 1973 until he sold the property to Shopko, and then he and Nelda moved to Tennessee where he lived until 2016 when he moved back to L’Anse. Ron enjoyed camping and traveling with his family throughout most of the United States. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his children, Julie Fish of L’Anse, Ronald Bishop Jr. of Traverse City, MI, Cathy (Dale) Gordon of Trout Creek, MI; brother Gary (Colleen) Bishop of Sweet Water, TN; sisters, Patricia (Gary) Nankervis of Skanee, Elizabeth “Babe” McDermitt of South Carolina; grandchildren, Jeremy Fish, Joshua Fish, Adrea Craven, Michaela Coyne, Carissa Goldsworthy, Cody Goldsworthy, Austin Gordon; great grandchildren, Joshua, Alixes, Mirac, Jonah, Danica, Quinn; step children, Ed Robillard, Dan Robillard, John Robillard, Kati Robillard Moses; and step grand children.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife’s Helen Bishop and Nelda Bishop; brother Jimmy Bishop; sisters, Judy Reid and Rita Mukka.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery following the service. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
