Obituary: Roger Walter Jordan

Roger Walter Jordan, age 81 of L’Anse, MI passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024 at UP Health System, Marquette. He was born in Detroit, MI on April 6, 1943 the son of the late Walter and Anna (Gumtow) Jordan. Roger graduated from high school in 1961 and immediately joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country until 1965. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he attended Oakland Community College and Lansing Community College. Roger married the former Carol Cooper. She preceded him in death. He had been employed as Fire Chief for Detroit Metro Airport, and had been Fire Chief in Skanee until he retired in 2018.

Roger was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Skanee. He loved being in the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. Roger played a very active role in his grandchildren’s lives.

Roger is survived by his loving daughter Christy Jordan of L’Anse, grandchildren Halsey (Roy), Kazie (Halle), Jayden (Shelby), Chloe (Dylan), great grandchildren Briella, Finley and Kallie, Banks, Wrenley and one on the way, as well as his sister Lynda David. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 pm. until 3:45 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2024 at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Military honors, under the direction of Baraga American Legion Post #444 will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. with Pastor Bonnie Billock officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home.
