Roger Alvin Rantanen, age 80 of Watton, MI passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Bayside Village.
He was born January 11, 1939 in Negaunee, MI son of Alfonso and Bertha (Elfbrandt) Rantanen. Roger graduated from L’Anse High School in 1956. He married Darlene Brady on August 2, 1972. Roger spent 2 years on the Great Lakes Ore Boats and then worked 30 years for AMC/Chrysler, retiring in 1989.
Roger loved the outdoors. He snow shoed everyday in the winter. He loved the Rocky Mountains and traveled and climbed many mountains, most were 14,000 feet high. He walked and groomed miles and miles of the North Country trail in the U.P.
Surviving are his wife Darlene Rantanen of Watton; children, Brad Rantanen of Sidnaw, Randy (Vicki) Rantanen of Sidnaw, Rebecca (Todd) Bischoff of Niagara, WI; sisters, Karen Hansen of Watton, Cindy (Kevin) Rourke fo Corpus Christi, Tx; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his sons, Todd and Daniel Rantanen; and his best friend his dog “Pal”.
Per his request there will be no funeral service. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
