Roberta Louise Bessner (nee Todd), 77, a former resident of Calumet passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where she was a resident for 3 years.
She was born on April 9, 1941, in Chicago to Richard and Ann (Moilanen) Todd.
She moved to Hancock with her family at a young age, and attended Hancock Public Schools. She graduated in 1960.
Roberta married, William Bessner on September 3, 1960.
She loved to sew. Roberta was a well-known seamstress in the area making her children’s clothes and sewing for many people. She worked at Gartners, IGA, Calumet Electronics, Thurner’s Bakery, SuperValu, and Walmart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ann Todd, and her sister, Pat.
She is survived by 5 children, William Bessner Jr of Laurium, Debbie (Dan) Jarve OF Calumet, Lori Bessner of St. Louis Park, MN, Vicki Bessner of St. Louis Park, MN, and Gail (Ray) Kotajarvi-Gerard of Laurium.
11 grandchildren: Megan, Jared, Kyle, Danielle, Shannon, Tara, Jessica, Chelsea, Sarah, William, Rachel, 7 great grandchildren, and one brother, Richard Todd.
A private family service will be held at Waasa Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests making a donation to Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly.
