Robert B Sakkinen, 82, a resident of Calumet passed away on Tuesday March 8, 2022 at UP Health System-Portage.
He was born on January 18, 1940 in Detroit to Raymond and Kathryn (Hegner) Sakkinen. He attended the local schools and graduated from Royal Oak High School with the Class of 1958. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. After being discharged from the Army, he attended Oakland University where he received his Bachelors degree.
Robert worked as a Certified Nurses Aide at Our Lady of Mercy Health and Rehab for 30 years. In retirement he was helping with activities at Gardenview. He earned a degree in History and had a great memory of history. He loved tracking his family genealogy where he traced his family back to John Quincy Adams.
On November 16, 1968 he was united in marriage to Connie Graham.
He was a past member of National Lutheran Church and a member of the church council and a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Houghton where he taught bible history class.
He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Kathryn Sakkinen.
He is survived by his wife: Connie of Calumet, Sister in-law Cathy Hemintz of Wisconsin, and Beth (Dale) Marquardt of Las Vegas.
His brothers: Richard Sakkinen of Calumet
Michael (Diane) Sakkinen of Tennesse
Along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday March 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Glenn Schwanke to officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until the time of the service.
The service will also be live streamed and available via a link on the home-page at www.peacehoughton.org
The family invites you to join us in the fellowship hall for a “Pasty Luncheon” Following the service.

Burial will take place in Lake View Cemetery.
