Obituary: Robert M. Supanich

Robert M. Supanich, 90, a resident of Copper City passed away on Saturday February 13, 2021.

He was born on August 7, 1930 in Mohawk a son of the late Michael and Gertrude (Granville) Supanich.

He attended the Mohawk School and Calumet High School. While in school Robert was an avid baseball and hockey player.

After School he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

On October 29, 1955 he was united in marriage to Ruth Zigman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mohawk.

Bob worked for Ray Aldrich Logging, C&H in the mines and for the Houghton County Road Commission for 25 years until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ahmeek, the Copper City Fire Department, and the American Legion Post 230 of Mohawk.

Preceding him in death was his sister Patricia Antilla.

Surviving are:  His Wife Ruth

Daughters: Mary (Ron) Oja of Copper City

                    Janet Supanich of Copper City

Sons: Mike (Diane) Supanich of Kearsarge

           Jon (Christine) Supanich of Oak Island, North Carolina

2 Grandsons: Michael Oja of Mohawk and Mark (Sarah) Oja of Oak Island, North Carolina

1 Great Granddaughter: Josephine Grace Oja

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday February 18, 2021 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church of Calumet with Fr. Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate. For those unable to attend the service in person, please go to the Keweenaw Catholic Communities Facebook page or YouTube channel where you can view the livestream of the funeral mass.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
